Panda Bear Cake
I had a difficult time coming up with ideas for a panda bear cake so I ended up going with this. I used a Wilton Teddy Bear pan. I kept a picture of a real panda nearby and got started.
I used homemade buttercream frosting in black and white. This was my first time doing two things: 1. working with a specialty cake pan (make sure it is well greased in every nook and cranny, then floured) 2. black frosting tint (I had always read it was easier to use chocolate frosting to make black, but that wasn't an option for me. I ended up using almost an entire container of black tint to get the right shade. I suggest mixing up the black and letting it sit in the fridge for 30 min or so before piping it, that way it gets dark enough in time for you to work with it.)
Keep the frosting cool or it will not shape up well. Afterwards I added her age on the feet to make the cake more personal.
