Homamde Patriotic Birthday Cake

I made this Patriotic birthday cake for my niece's birthday. They asked for a red, white and blue theme since it was close to fourth of July.

I made a 2 layer 10 inch cake and a 2 layer 8 inch cake both chocolate. I filled it with buttercream and covered them both with mmf. Then I mixed red and blue food coloring into the mmf, which took a lot to get the rich blue and just right red colors.

I then cut stars out of the red and blue and put them on the cake. I also rolled balls out of the red, white and blue colors to go around the cake. At the party someone asked if they were gumballs, and I was thinking gumballs might have saved me a lot of time if I had only thought about it.

I then melted white almond bark and mixed in food coloring to get red and blue colors. I layered it on a cookie sheet and then put it in freezer to harden. I then used the star cutter and cut out stars. I used skewer sticks wrapped in ribbon and put one on each side to make the stars on top of the cake. I also made a banner to put the happy birthday on.

Thanks for looking!
