Homemade Penguins at the Pool Cake

Homemade Penguins at the Pool Cake

I made this Penguins at the Pool Cake for my daughter's 7th birthday. After a trip to SeaWorld, she became obsessed with penguins.

We looked at several different cakes on this website and came up with our own design based on those pictures.

I used a 14" circle pan for the bottom, an 8" circle pan for the middle, and half of the sports ball pan for the igloo. It's all iced with buttercream icing using a swirl technique to give it a snowy look. The penguins are made completely out of fondant. The entrance to the igloo is also made of fondant. The penguins' pool is blue jell-o which we refrigerated just until it began to set and then poured into the pool.

It was a hit with kids and adults alike at the party!

This cake is adorable! I never thought to use blue jello for water - good job!
