Cute DIY Pink Hello Kitty Cake

Like a lot of girls, my daughter loves Hello Kitty, so I found this web site for my inspiration to make her 5th birthday cake. The look on her face made it so worth the time in making it!

I made a basic Victoria sponge, sandwiched with strawberry jam, for  the base, using a 7” by 10” rectangle pan. I then made another 1 layer of sponge cake and baked in an 8” pan for the Hello Kitty shape face. I traced over a picture of Hello Kitty from my daughter’s Hello Kitty chair, then used grease proof and traced again, cut it out and placed it on top of the 8” sponge. I used cocktail sticks to keep the template in place while I cut around the shape with a knife.

I placed a small blob of jam on top of the base sponge to keep the face in place. I made white butter cream (use titanium dioxide to whiten the butter cream) and used the star piping technique for applying icing and the same with the rest of the cake but in bright pink.

For the eyes and nose I used jelly beans and whiskers I used shoe laces sweets. I finished it off with edible butterflies and sprinkled edible glitter on the pink bits.

It definitely went down a treat for everyone, and impressed the guests at my first attempt of Hello Kitty cake, just love making them for my girl.

My next mission will be a Peppa Pig cake for my 2 year old’s birthday in May!!
