Homemade Pirate Birthday Cake

I made this Pirate Birthday Cake for my son on his pirate themed birthday. It was my very first cake that I made with fondant. I was pretty worried about the results but over all I think it came out great. The only thing I changed for the next fondant topped cake was I added a little more buttercream underneath because I found out very quickly that fondant doesn't taste really good.

The way I created the shape of the cake was baked a few sheet cakes and then free handedly carved out the skull and cross bones very carefully. I hope you enjoy this idea.
