Homemade Pirate Birthday Cake Design
The Pirate Birthday Cake Design was for my son's 10th birthday. We went to the store together and picked a box flavor cake, he selected a "main" icing flavor and then a few small tubes of colored icing to create an ocean and an island.
We then went through toys and selected smaller pirate themed pieces, washed and dried them thoroughly. We laid out the toys in the 13x9 pan to be sure all would fit on the cake the way we wanted them to look. Together we baked the cake, waited for it to cool, then my son and I had fun icing the cake and using the colored icing for the water and island look, then we simply added his favorite pirate toys!
We decided to make this a tradition and bake a cake each year and come up with a different theme each year! My son looks forward to baking his cake this summer for his 11th birthday and has selected a surf theme since he learned to surf this year!
