Pirate Cake

Pirate Cake

I made this pirate cake for my son's 4th birthday. He likes The Pirates That Dont Do Anything. I came to this web site because it has the best ideas.

I tried making the cake with the football pan as suggested by another contributor but ended up starting over when the ship broken half. So I went with another idea with the Styrofoam base. I used yellow cake for the 9 X 13 Ocean cake. For the ship I did 1 chocolate 9 X 13 cake. I cut out a base and then cut the 9 X 13 cake in half and created the pirate ship. The square ships hold up better.

I used veggie tales characters that I found at the local Christin store. The mast was made of doles from the craft store and some construction paper. I decorated the cake with butter cream frosting recipe from Wilton. The fish, sharks and octopus' were from the candy store. The plank was a mini health bar. Canons were tootsie rolls. Cannon balls were malted milk balls.

The treasure chest was a wooden chest from the craft store that I painted brown and filled with rock candy from the local candy store.
