Homemade Pirate Kids Cake

This was my first attempt at a cake with fondant and not knowing a lot about it, I didn't want to risk the entire pirate kids cake on just one element. I frosted the whole thing with a buttercream crumb coat and let that sit. Then I frosted the entire thing again with buttercream.

I made the fondant with the Marshmallow Fondant recipe available on the internet. It was very easy and I used a video from YouTube.com to assist with it as well. My husband and I colored the fondant in small batches according to the colors we needed. I used cookie cutters for the shapes and freeformed just a few pieces.

The side details and the writing are all done in buttercream. Very easy cake overall.
