Cody's Cake
Made this cake for my son Cody's 2nd Birthday, used 2 slab cakes which i made myself then drew up a design to look like the ships body, had to secure it with a few wooden skewers cut to size to hold up front and back, used a jam and butter icing combo for filling and red buttercream icing outside, i decorated it with fruit tingles, large jaffa "cannon balls" pirate candles and curly wurly's.
I found out that when making a cake this size it is alot better if cake has been frozen the night or even 2 nights before as you dont want the buttercream icing to melt like mine did the first time around. The stiffer you make the icing the better to. i slathered the cake in the icing and found it helped the cake stay together too.
the masts were made from bamboo skewers taped together and the flag i made myself. we also found out that the cake just and i mean just fit into our fridge, so take that into consideration too. We got our inspiration from this website of all places, i had a look around here for ideas then made up my own and here she is....arrgh me mateys!
