Pokemon - Pikachu Cake

Pokemon - Pikachu Cake

My son wanted a Pokemon cake for his 7th birthday. I printed off a picture of the Pikachu trio and made a royal icing plaque.

To make the plaque, I put the picture under a piece of parchment paper and loosely taped it down on a cookie sheet. Pipe/trace the picture with thinned royal icing. Let harden for at least 48 hours before handling.

Peel carefully and store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. The cake is a 2 layer chocolate cake with cookies and cream frosting in the middle. The entire cake was iced with white buttercream icing, then I piped in the sky with tinted piping gel. The rest of the cake was iced in green, with orange border, and grass details tip 3 writing.

Make sure to bring the cake to room temperature before putting on the royal icing plaque(as the moisture will cause the plaque to "bleed"). I put it on about an hour before the guests arrived.

Help with the plague
by: Hokuanalani

When you did your plague. Did you put a solid color first and then detail? I tried to do it but mine kept breaking. I outlined it in all black and let it dry and then went back and did each color. If you could please tell me where I went wrong I would be carefully! Thank you so much and your cake looks great!

Great cake! How did you do the plaque? I haven't worked with royal icing, so can you please explain how to do the image? Thanks!
