Coolest Poker Birthday Cake

I made this poker birthday cake for my boyfriend’s birthday the other year – was just starting to experiment with cake decorating etc. He is an avid poker fan and plays with his mates often at out place, so I knew something like this would be grateful.

I made two sponges – both chocolate and sandwiched them with a thick layer or chocolate butter icing – didn’t want to make it too sweet really.

I used fondant icing and made the cards and a knife to cut the symbols to place on the top. I used a little bit of water to stack and keep them in place and let them air dry so they would stay firm.

I used the same principle for the chips – used the end of a kitchen roll tube with cling film over it to cut the shapes out. Left it rugged looking with the icing. He thoroughly loved it and kept it as a screen saver on his phone for over a month!
