Coolest Present Cake

I made this present cake for a baby shower that was polka-dot themed. I used 6 cake mixes and made layers of 9×9 square pans, and then stacked them all up. They were given a coat of buttercream. I made fondant from marshmallows and water and rolled it out and put it on the sides.

I tinted some of the fondant green and cut squares and molded it on top of foil to create the tissue paper. We let that dry most of the day. For the top of the box, we used light Styrofoam because we were afraid cake would break. We put fondant over the Styrofoam.

I then colored more fondant and made the “dots” and ribbon. I put the ribbon and made a bow. (I saw this on You tube) I put the polka dots on and adhered with water.

When I arrived at the shower, I put the cake together. Everyone thought it was so cute, and no one could believe I hadn’t bought it!

  1. Gorgeous cake. If you want to make the top edible you could use rice krispie treats covered in fondant instead of foam. Lightweight and really yummy!
