Coolest Princess Ariel Doll Birthday Cake

This Princess Ariel Doll birthday cake was for my daughter’s 2nd birthday.

The doll is a full Ariel doll bought from Target. I removed her dress and shoes, and wrapped her body in cling wrap, and held her head and hair up while icing inside a small Ziploc bag.

I used 4 round chocolate cakes for her dress, which I stacked and layered with vanilla icing I had tinted pink. I carved the top layer into the cone shape, using a long bread knife. I iced the outside of the cake, and swept the icing up and down to make the skirt look a little more like fabric.

Next I sprinkled the top with dark pink sprinkles and put some pink and white sugar butterflies (store bought) around the skirt for detail (they also helped to cover any holes or crumby bits showing through the icing). I used a small amount of white fondant, rolled out and wrapped around the dolls torso, to make the bodice. If I had had more time, I would have tried maybe doing some puff sleeves or something to give more detail.

I found I didn’t need to hollow out the middle of the cake for the doll, I put a long knife into the middle cutting an X shape, but not removing any of the cake. I then just pushed Ariel straight down into place. All I had to do then was neaten her hair and place the candle.

VERY easy cake to decorate. The longest part was baking the 4 cakes as I had to do them all individually, I only had the one tin! My daughter absolutely loved her ‘Happy Cake’.
