Coolest Princess Barbie Cake

My daughter is in LOVE with Barbie so for her third birthday I decided I wanted to give her a special Princess Barbie cake. I cooked the cake mix in a Pyrex bowl to get the shape of the ball gown. Her favorite color is pink, so I added pink food coloring to the mix. I just bought a two dollar Barbie with the legs removed for the body.

I cut a hole in the top of the cake and placed the Barbie in. I used the cake I cut out to secure the Barbie in place, stuffing it in the gaps.

I love old English style dresses so I used them as my inspiration for the design. I used white icing, using pink food coloring to color. I piped the icing on with a star tip, starting with the front and bottom of the dress, slowly moving around and up until I reached the doll. Icing the doll was hard but with some fancy wrist work I was able to ice it without messing up the dress.

Safe to say she LOVED it, and so did everyone else. Now I’m on order to make a cake for everyone on their birthdays.

  1. You can also get a “doll pan” at places like Hobby Lobby for around $20.00. This pan makes the cake stand up higher and give it the exact shape needed for the bottom of barbie’s gown… I believe your cake bakes around a space in order to create the hole needed in order to stick barbie right down in there. There is no extra cutting or filling needed… once your cake has baked, it is pretty much done. Just stick barbie in and frost! The bowl idea is still pretty cool though… I wanted to try this cake for my daughter but I didn’t buy the “doll pan” I ended up with a cake decorating kit ($200)!!!!! and then didn’t have the money for anything else… I may try this bowl idea… Your cake turned out very nice!! Good luck on your future cakes!
