Coolest Princess Cake

This cake was made for a friends daughter’s birthday. She really likes princesses so I thought that this would be an ideal cake. Three 7-inch sponge cakes were made for the dress with a mix consisting of 4 Oz butter, 4 Oz Castor sugar, 2 eggs and 6 Oz self raising flour. A hole was cut in the middle of the sponges to accommodate the doll.

Each layer was filled with jam and the sponge was then covered in a butter cream icing using the recipe on the packet. I then used fondant icing to cover the sponge and pressed in the pleats of the dress. A pink fondant icing was used for the top of the dress. The doll was then wrapped in cling film up to her waist and placed in the centre of the cakes, this ensures that the doll can be used after the homemade princess cake has been eaten!

I piped onto the doll using butter cream to cover any gaps. I then stuck on ready made flowers and sprinkles to decorate the dress using edible glue. The dress can be decorated in many different ways and different colours can be used. This was my first attempt at a homemade princess cake and I really enjoyed doing it !!!
