Coolest Princess Castle Birthday Cake

I had never decorated a cake before, so I was “researching” some tips, and found your site. After looking at several examples of a Princess Castle Birthday Cake, I took things I liked from several different examples to make my daughter’s 1st birthday cake. She is the “princess” so I wanted a castle cake.

The tips I found most useful were making what you can ahead of time , example: I made the turrets for the castle two nights before, and I baked the cakes the night before so that they would have plenty of time to cool. Also, using straws for support so your cake doesn’t slide while frosting or when it settles. I found you might want to cut the straws a little bit shorter than you might think, because the cake will settle a little and you don’t want the straws sticking up through your frosting (don’t forget to take them out when serving!)

Thanks for all the ideas, my daughter’s first birthday cake was a hit. I have two moms wanting me to make their next cakes. I will try to make a children’s cakes from now on. It was fun and so much cuter!
