Coolest Princess Castle Birthday Cake

I used the Wilton castle cake kit for this Princess Castle Birthday Cake. It was for my daughter’s 5th birthday. It took 8 hours to do, but it was worth it.

I pre-made the flowers with flower cut out and pressed in the middle with ball tool to curve the flower. I put a dot of white royal icing in the middle and put aside to dry. I actually made extra and used them for christening cakes later.

I covered the towers in pink icing and rolled in crushed edible glitter. I surrounded the windows in blue buttercream and dabbed them with glitter.

The cakes were covered in pink buttercream and sprinkled with glitter. The top cake was supported by dowels and it was on it’s own cake board. The most time consuming was piping the leaves and attaching the flowers.

I had difficulty with the icing breaking off the plastice very easily. Also not the easiest cake to transport, I had most of the turrets either falling out or lean terribly by the time we got to our destination. I was lucky that I had prepared a repair kit to take with me.

If I did it again I would not attach the turrets until we got there, this would mean I would have to allow an extra hour or so to put the leaves and flowers around the base of the turrets but it’s better than the whole thing falling apart.

Still I think it turned out pretty well.
