Homemade Princess Castle Cake
For my granddaughter's fourth birthday she wanted a princess party. We wanted a big castle but didn't need a lot of cake.
I used 12" square Styrofoam boards to make the base of the Princess castle cake. I used floral foam purchased from a craft store for the towers and turrets. All layers were covered in basic homemade buttercream. The center squares were made from white cake mix and scratch cake combined. I baked 2 8" layers and 2 6" layers and frosted with buttercream.
Cut out round sections from the corners of the base. You can hot glue the turrets to the towers or use bamboo skewers to secure them together. The flags were made from fabric dipped into starch and woven over round objectsink pens to dry with the wave effect. Then hot glued to colored picks and inserted on top of turrets.
For a fish scale look on the turrets I piped scallop design with a #3 tip starting at the top and going down. Decorated lattice design for windows. Writing tip & leaf tip for vines.
When the party is over you can discard the Styrofoam or clean it up to use again.
