Homemade Princess Castle Cake

I made this Princess Castle Cake for my daughter's 4th birthday party. It's the first time I have attempted something like this but thanks to this site I found loads of ideas.

The bottom two tiers are made from Victoria sponge and the top is chocolate (for my chocaholic son). I cut semi-circles out of the bottom tier (before icing) to accommodate the turrets.

All tiers were iced in pink fondant and I used dowels to support the tiers. I used 5 kitchen roll tubes cut to size for the pillars and iced them in the same fondant. I then took 5 wafer cones, iced them in pink buttercream and rolled them in pink sugar (made by mixing a little red food colouring with granulated sugar). I stuck them on the top of the pillars with more buttercream.

Next I piped on details in the same buttercream. Finally I used Dr Oetker "writing icing" for the vines and flowers because I didn't have a thin enough nozzle to pipe them on.

My daughter loved her princess castle cake and I loved making it!
