Coolest Puffer Fish Birthday Cake

My aunt absolutely loves fish especially tropical fish. She came in town the weekend of her birthday and we surprised her with a cook out at my house and I made this Puffer Fish Birthday Cake especially for her. It brought tears to her eyes because she said no one had ever done this for her. (She normally buys her own birthday cake).

I took two Pyrex bowls, filled them with a two layer cakes each then baked at 350 for 35 minutes. I removed them and allowed them to cool completely overnight. I then took lollipop sticks you can purchase at Walmart and candy melts and molded the fins, lips, and eyes and placed them in the refrigerator overnight.

The following morning I removed the cake from the refrigerator and I prepared a teal colored icing and made the water look which also helped the cake stick where it was and not move. Then iced with butter cream and stuck the two sides on top of each other then I iced it all over. Then I used the star tip and piped with yellow in random spots then went back in and piped with red to fill the remaining spots.

I wrote Happy Birthday to my aunt and placed it in the refrigerator to allow it to stay cool since it was the middle of the summer at this time and took it out 30 minutes prior to her arrival. It was easy and definitely fun!
