Coolest Puppy Cake

My grandson is crazy about his stuffed animal blanket named “Pup Pup” and he wanted a “Pup Pup” cake. I took a picture of the dog and then traced over it using the sizes of pans I would need to achieve the correct shapes.

A ball pan was used for the head, a 9×12 pan for the body, 6 mini loaf pans for the legs and an 9″ round pan, cut in half, for the ears. With so many pans, I needed to use 2 cake mixes. I made my cakes according to the directions other than I add one cup (single serving) of apple sauce instead of oil. Keeps the cake nice and moist while cutting calories.

After cooling, I put the cake together and cut pieces when necessary. I used butter and shortening frosting and needed 2 lbs. of confectionary sugar. Regular liquid food coloring was used for color. The balloons, and picture of my grandson are not edible, but the dog bones are cookies and the sprinkles are candy. This was a fun cake to make.

It goes to show that with a picture and a little imagination you can make just about any shapes into a special cake.
