Coolest Purse Birthday Cake

This purse birthday cake idea was taken from looking at the cakes on this site for my daughter’s birthday. I took two cake mixes and for hers I used a strawberry and a chocolate cake mix.

I made the cakes separate and cooked them in two bread pans. I used 2 cans cream cheese icing that I colored pink and bought the two packs of multi colored Twizzlers, 1 pack sour skittles, 1 pack gummie lifesavers, some pink sugar crystals and 1 tube of blue icing.

To build the cake I stacked the two cooled cakes on top of one another and cut out my design to look like an open purse. Then I took them apart and iced them lightly, iced the bottom cake and in between, then placed the second cake (with the open purse part cut out) on top. Before you ice the top its a good idea to secure it with lollipop stick through both cakes because the cake is a kinda high and narrow. Then ice the top cake.

Put the cake in the freezer for about thirty minutes, then remove the cake and put your finishing icing on top and sprinkle with sugar crystals. ( this will help with crumbs). I used the Twizzlers around the cake and the handles then filled in with the blue icing. I placed cut Twizzlers shaped in circles inside the purse to look like bracelets and lifesaver gummies with skittles on top to look like rings.

I also placed the skittles around the cake to look like gems and to monogram an S for my daughter’s name Savanna.
