Homemade R2D2 Birthday Cake
My son wanted a Star Wars theme for his 5th birthday, so I started looking on the web and this site. The R2D2 Birthday Cake looks difficult, but it was actually one of the easier cakes I've made.
I used 3 9 inch rounds, and then the top layer is baked in a Pyrex bowl. The arms were baked in a 9x13 pan then cut to shape. I used dowels through the middle to support the weight. I frosted the whole thing with buttercream and then the blue accents were made with fondant.
The cake was HEAVY, but it was a crowd pleaser!
