Homemade R2D2 Star Wars Cake

Homemade R2D2 Star Wars Cake

My son is obsessed with Star Wars and LOVED this R2D2 Star Wars Cake. It turned out to be way bigger than I thought it would be and took some time, but it was worth it.

I used Rice Krispy treats to form the legs and covered with Marshmallow Fondant that I made. The body is 4 round cakes on top of each other (leveled with a cake leveler that takes off the tops of the cakes to make them perfectly stackable) and then the to make the head, I used a Pyrex bowl to bake that cake.

I suggest mixing a box cake WITH a pound cake mix. It gives you a firmer cake so they stack better (also used fondant sticks to "hold" the cake together like nails). I used frosting in between the layers and covered it with icing for the "glue" then covered with marshmallow fondant that I made. I colored fondant blue and grey and cut out all the embellishments for R2D2. I used eatable silver glitter to give the grey a "silver" look and viola.
It was a great cake, and tasted really good too. It was HEAVY, probably 20 pounds!
