Homemade R2D2 Star Wars Cake
This R2D2 Star Wars Cake was never ever meant to be this large. It ended up being large enough to feed over 500 guests with 12 thick layers high. The cake layers were made in advance and individually frozen 2 days in advance. I had 3 different types of cake: Chocolate mud, white chocolate mud and I added butter cake to, this assisted in the construction form.
The whole frozen cake was layered up using butter cream and then covered in butter cream to have the rolled icing something to stick to. The legs were completely butter cake as they need to stand and the other mixtures would just crumble. It was the decorated with colouring the fondant and glittering the silver top.
It was a huge huge hit. The idea came with surfing the web for Star Wars pics and he saw one similar to this, so all I had was a picture, and the rest came from using my imagination to get it there.
