Colorful Homemade Race Car Cake

For my son’s 2nd birthday, I had a transportation party. I made a fire truck cake, a race car cake and a train cake. This was the race car cake. I bought a Wilton race car mold which made it easy. I used the homemade white cake recipe I always use from the Better Homes New Cook Book because it is heavier than a box mix and you need that for these 3D type of cakes.

A pound cake recipe would work well. I decorated it based on the picture that was on the mold, but used a “2” as the car’s number since that was the age of my son. The frosting recipe I used was the Wilton butter cream frosting that comes with the instructions for the pan. It is stiff so it works very well for decorating and tastes very good. No one can ever believe that it is made with Crisco!
