Coolest Race Track Birthday Cake

I baked (2)10″ cakes, (2)8″ cakes and (2)6″ cakes for this Race Track Birthday Cake. I iced the 6″ cakes in white and the 8″ cakes in red. I took the 10″ cake and with black and white buttercream made a checkerboard pattern all over it. I then had to smooth the 10″ cake, so I took some VIVA paper towels and placed it on the cake and gently took my hand and lightly rubbed the papertowel so that the black and white frosting would be nice and smooth. Don’t rub too hard or the black and white will bleed into each other.

I used yellow buttercream dots around the bottom of each tier, I think I used tip #12). I made the flags for the top out of bbq skewers and a piece of checker board plastic that I cut out from the goody bags for the party. You can also take checkerboard scrap book paper to do the same or simply buy some little flags.

I then took buttercream and made the #1 on the cake. You could place some little matchbox cars on top or something to that effect. Happy Baking.

  1. I really liked the way you decorated the cake. I will be baking and decorating a cake today for my nephew. This will be great inspiration. Great job!
