Homemade Race Track Cake

Thanks for the ideas from this website. My four year old is car crazy right now so it was a fantastic idea to do a race track cake. I got on this website and let him choose which cake he wanted me to re-create.

This cake is two cake mixes. I used a chocolate and a white cake mix. I also used a 9x13 cake pan and a 9 inch round cut in half to put on either side of the 9x13. I iced the whole cake in chocolate icing. The race track was made of chocolate sprinkles and the inside barrier was life savers.

Some people used the Wilton grass tip, but I didn't have one so I used a Wilton star tip. I did the star tip design for the in-field and the outside of the cake. The cake board I used was a foam board found in the craft section. It worked perfect. I was even able to damp a paper towel and clean off any mishaps with icing.

I work for an electrical company and I was able to get the caution tape from work to put around the board. The flags and finish line I made on my computer in word, taping them to toothpicks. My husband got creative and took one of my sons cars and "wrecked" it to put in the in field.

This cake was a complete hit. My son was more interested in playing with the cake then playing with his cousins at the party. Thanks again for the idea!
