Coolest Rapunzel Birthday Cake Design

With the new Disney film “Tangled” just being released, my daughter wanted a Rapunzel cake. I searched the internet for a Homemade Rapunzel Birthday Cake Design, but couldn’t find any. So I basically tried my best to copy the dress from my daughter’s Rapunzel doll.

I couldn’t find a Dolly Varden cake tin in the stores, so I ended up buying a croquembouche mould to bake the cake in. To make the waves in the dress I used rolls of fondant underneath the top layer. This was only my second time using fondant icing, so it took some getting used to! I used store bought fondant which I dyed in different colours, and used it to decorate the shirt as well as the bodice on the doll. I took my time decorating the cake – it took about 4 hours over two days to decorate.

This Rapunzel cake was the most intricate (and frustrating) cake I’ve made as yet, but my daughter loved it and I got many compliments on it from the party guests.

  1. Awesome job on this cake! Was wondering if you had to prepare the doll’s surface in anyway, or did the fondant adhere itself to it easily?
