Homemade Real Ducky Cake

Homemade Real Ducky Cake

My son loves real ducks. He watched the ducks grow up from ducklings in our pond and one of his first words was "Duck!" I wanted to make him a Real Ducky Cake, but the only examples I could find were rubber duckies or hunter's cakes. I decided to make my own pattern. I cut the body and tail out from a circular cake, then used the remainder to make a neck and head.

The cake is Carrot Cake from the Heritage Cookbook and Cream Cheese frosting from the same cook book. I added cocoa powder to get the brown and swirled it. I added an extra large dollop of white frosting to make the wing then marbled it again. The beak is chocolate cream cheese frosting with a drop of yellow and red food coloring. The eye is a raisin.

I froze the cake before icing and after to keep the peaks nice and fresh for the party.
