Coolest Red Dragon 5th Birthday Cake

My son wanted a Red Dragon 5th Birthday Cake. I decided to make it myself but it took my whole day.

I prepared chocolate sponge cake batter for 30 persons with 8 eggs and divide the batter into two 24 cm and a 18 cm round pans. I let the cakes stay a couple of hours in the refrigerator after they cooled down on a wire rack. Meanwhile I prepared ganache with 500 grams of bitter chocolate and 500 grams of heavy cream.

I cut one of 24 cm cake and the 18 cm cake into two and fold the pieces back to back to make the body. I cut out the tail, the head and the feet out of the other 24 cm cake. I cut many layers and filled with ganache and covered the figure with the remaining ganache. I refrigerated the figure before decorating for a while.

It required 2 kilograms of fondant to cover and decorate the cake. The weather was too hot, the fondant melted and gave me a lot trouble when I was making the details like horns and teeth. So I suggest to work in a cool kitchen when using fondant.

Eventually my son was amazed and all the children liked the cake. The taste was also good.
