Homemade Rubber Duckie Cake
It was our grandson's first birthday and the only word he knows is duck. He recognizes ducks in pictures and then he gets so excited, he flaps his hands.
We started the cake with our banana cake recipe. We made 2 cakes - 12x8. I made a template of a duck out of cardboard and laid the cake out on a sheet of paper to imagine how it would work. We made both cakes on Saturday, as well as the icing. We iced the first cake in blue icing, to represent the sea. Then we cut out the duck from the second cake and iced it yellow. We made the beak orange and used a Wilton brown colour pencil to make the duck lines. We used a candy eye. We also used a duck candle to decorate and candy letters to write his name. He said duck when he saw the cake and shoved his piece of cake in his mouth since this was his first sweet.
We got our ideas from this website and were very proud of our accomplishment.
