Coolest Santa and Elves Holiday Cake

I made this Santa and Elves Holiday Cake as a donation for a charity event last December. I used the Wilton Cuddly Bear stand up mold for Santa and the mini bear mold for the elves. I baked per pan directions. Santa is vanilla cake and the elves are kicked up a bit with some peppermint flavoring and ground candy canes. The frosting is home-made butter cream.

Once the cakes are cooled and the core back in the larger cake, proceed to cut the ears, muzzles and tails off all the cakes. I usually crumb coat over these areas right away to keep crumbs out of the rest of the design as I decorate. Note: each cake is set on a smaller, covered, cardboard base for ease of decorating and getting on and off my turn table.

I used a star tip to start, filling in from the bottom of the cakes. I piped in the fur and Santa?s beard, etc with a large open star tip, a large leaf tip to swirl on the caps on the elves and a large round tip for Santa’s hat. I braced the candy canes with short pieces of lollipop sticks and then added the arms and mittens.

I wrapped a rectangular cake board with festive wrapping paper and then used double sided tape to place Santa and the elves in place.
