My son asked for a Scooby Doo Cake for his 3rd birthday. I searched this site and others to get ideas (thank you) and this Homemade Scooby Doo Haunted House Cake is what I came up with. I learned some lessons on this one!

I started with a 13 in round pan (1 layer), then made 5 loaf pans to build the house. Shaped and stacked 4 and the 5th I cut in half and topped with a chocolate dipped ice cream cone. This is where I learned about supporting the cake! Next time I would make the house out of rice crispies treats or put dowel rods in to hold the house! By the time my house developed it tilted and would have fallen over if we hadn't propped it against the wall (with wax paper between the cake and wall).

I made homemade butter cream icing to ice the cake. Yhe grave stone is a Milano, the grave is a scrap of cake covered with chocolate butter cream and cookie. The doors are little Hershey bars. The windows are pipped chocolate. My 12 year old daughter made the trees with Wilton chocolate melts. Then she and my 5 year old dipped pretzel sticks in Wilton white chocolate melts and I used them for the fence.

The railing is made out of mini Charleston chews and I bought the figures at Toys r Us. I baked my cakes, let them cool then wrapped them in saran wrap then aluminum foil and put them in the freezer over night (this keeps your cake moist and helps with the crumb coat). The next day I did a crumb coat and stacked the cake. I then put it back in the freezer (wrapped as much as possible) for at least 2 hrs before I iced and decorate it.

Thanks for looking!
