Homemade Sea Lion Cake
I made this Sea Lion Cake from the Wilton 3-D Lamb Cake Pan. After the cake cooled, I cut away some cake from the neck area, cut away the ears and feet to give a sea lion shape. I stuck a long wooden skewer down the middle for strength. I then iced the entire cake with chocolate frosting (I used a crock of Betty Crocker frosting).
After making the frosting as smooth as I could, I filled a bowl with hot water and wetted my finger to smooth out the lines. This also get a glossy coat to the sea lion. I finished it off with Junior Mint eyes and nose and raw angel hair whiskers. Oh, and the fins are Hershey bars that I slightly warmed and molded to look like a sea lion's fins.
