Sesame Street Cake

Sesame Street Cake

This is my first attempt at a birthday cake after completing an introductory cake class. I made this Sesame Street cake for my son's first birthday.

We used the Sesame Street Beginning's First Birthday party supplies. The cake is two layers, using a 12" round pan. I frosted the entire cake with white buttercream and did the standard edge around the sides and bottom. The picture in the center is an edible image. I took one of the wall decorations from the party supplies to my local grocery store and had the image printed. Not all stores will do this due to copyright, but you can find people at online auction sites that will print one for you and mail it.

I freehanded the writing and then placed the matching decorative candles around the cake. I added sugar confetti in primary colors around the sides of the cake. I also made an individual small Elmo face cake for my son, using a star tip for the red fur and freehanding the facial features with various tips.
