Homemade Skiing Cake

I made this skiing cake for my sister's birthday party. We love to ski and just came back from a family ski trip. I used six cakes to create the mountain which I covered with fondant and then iced over with Wilton buttercream in a tub (4 lbs. of it!)

The skiiers and snowboarder are made of fondant and the skis are fruit stripes gum. I started making the figures three days prior so they had plenty of time to harden. I used white sugar crystals to give the cake a little sheen. The trees are also fondant. I colored white sugar crystals with food dye to create the blue waterfalls and stream.

This cake was super heavy but was a huge hit with everyone who saw it!
