Homemade Skull Birthday Cake

This Skull Birthday Cake was made from one rectangle-shaped cakes and one skull-shaped cake. It has a little bit of a "day of the dead" look to it. The picture doesn't show the sides very well, but the perimeter was decorated with dog bone shaped frosting decorations. The black and white frostings were both homemade (no fondant) and hand-piped (obviously!).

For the eyes I used giant plastic ~googly eyes~ from the craft store, and finished off the top of the skull with curly candles to resemble crazy looking hair. I made this cake for my husband's 28th birthday in August of 2007.
