Homemade Slot Machine Birthday Cake
I made this Homemade Slot Machine Birthday Cake for my mother's 80th birthday party. This cake was about 30" high with quite a few layers, the layers varied from vanilla sponge with fresh strawberries to chocolate sponge and rasberries.
I used a PVC skeleton to suport the layers and to keep the cake solid. I also designed the PVC structure to have a working handle that was spring loaded with an eletrical switch, the handle activated an alarm bell and turned the lights on. Once the cake was stacked and crumb coated I covered in in fondant. The images on the front are printed on edible frosting sheets and glued in place. The coin tray is made of gumb paste and was filled with gold chocolate coins.
When I brought the cake to the hall I told the waiter I needed an outlet to plug the cake into, that was pretty funny.
