For grandma’s birthday we wanted to create a cake that looked like one of her favorite things, a slot machine so we made her this Homemade Slot Machine Cake.
I baked two sheet cakes and cut them to the desired shapes holding them together with dowel rods. I decorated with buttercream. I used a piping tip to write everything. The arm for the slot machine was a straw spray painted (just cut out the small piece of cake it touched and discard prior to eating) with a large marshmallow attached to the end, but wait until presentation to attach the marshmallow, it is heavy and will fall over time.
The coins are the chocolate candies on the inside that I got from a party favor section at a supply store. I bought brand new dice and decorated.
Grandma was thrilled and bragged to everyone about her cake. Anyone can do this with a little patience.
