Rattler Snake Cake

Rattler Snake Cake

My nephew loves snakes (and all things 'creepy and gross'!) so for his 5th birthday we searched for ideas and found this site for a snake cake. So many great ideas!

My brother and I used two bundt cakes (one chocolate; one vanilla), one creme horn (some folks call them creme twists) for the 'rattler' and two triangular shaped filled pastries for the 'head' (this allowed us to have a snake with an open mouth).

We simply used prepared frosting colored green for the body and fruit-by-the-foot for the inside of the mouth, tongue and body stripes (helped disguise the joints where cake sections joined.)

We did a couple things differently than we had seen in any of the cakes here: for 'fangs' we decided to use two banana-shaped Runts (TM) candies - they looked perfect! For eyes, we used two Baskin-Robbins Sugar-free Cookies'n'Cream hard candies which are bi-colored and look great as eyes. To define the ridges on the creme horn, we used a tube of gel frosting. Gummie worms were placed around the cake as garnish.

Though far from professional, the cake was a huge hit and, if I say so myself, Delicious!
