My 7 year old wanted a snake cake for his birthday. Scouring the web was proving very difficult until I found this site. I wanted a realistic cake that he would love. I actually got the idea from another cake on here.
I started with 2 boxes of standard cake mix, 2 jars of icing, package of coconut, and fondant icing. I used round cake pans and disposable loaf pans, then cut to form coils. Using the icing I smoothed the cake into coils and covered in fondant icing (that I rolled with a mesh bag (like an onion bag)) and painted brown with the gel.
