Homemade Snow White Birthday Cake Design

I made this Snow White Birthday Cake Design for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. It took me two days to make. On the first day I did the baking and on the second day I did the icing. I got the idea for this cake on this website. To bake the doll cake, I used two boxed vanilla cake mixes from the store and followed the directions. Note that the timing will be different for the pan I used. This pan also comes with directions. I

used the Wilton Classic Wonder Mold Doll Cake Pan for the doll cake, which can be found at Michael’s and two 9 inch round pans and one box of vanilla (or white) cake mix for the round cake, making it a layered cake. After baking the cakes, I placed them on a wooden cutting board wrapped in foil (a cardboard base can also be used), tightly wrapped them in foil (plastic wrap can also be used), and put them in the freezer over night.

The next day, I made the icing. The Wilton Classic Wonder Mold Doll Cake Pan comes with a buttercream icing recipe, which is what I used. After making the icing, I separated it into four bowls for the coloring process. To color the icing, I used the Lemon Yellow, Christmas Red, Sky Blue, and Leaf Green colors from the Wilton Icing Colors kit, which can be found at Wal-Mart or Michael’s. Be careful not to add too much because a little color goes a long way.

After making and coloring the icing, I pulled the cakes out of the freezer and iced them. You want to ice the cakes while the cakes are frozen to avoid too many crumbs and to keep the cake from falling apart. They will defrost pretty fast. I iced the doll cake in yellow and the round cakes in green (separate) first. Then I put the Barbie doll body that the pan came with into the doll cake, using the head from a Snow White doll I bought from Wal-Mart instead of the head the pan came with. Then, I used an icing bag and piping tip to ice the bottom of the dress, the doll’s body, and the writing on the round cake. I used the star tip for the doll, the base of the round cake, and the flowers on the round cake, and the pointed tip for the writing and red stripes on the doll’s sleeves. The same bag can be used, but needs to be rinsed in between colors, or you can just use separate bags. Just drop the tip into the bag, fill it up with icing, and squeeze. I also added Smucker’s Strawberry Jelly in between the two round cakes before I stacked them up.
