Homemade Soccer Cake

At first I was a bit wary of preparing this Soccer Cake as I was not sure about how to do the ball shape, however, it was easier than I expected (except that the hexagon shapes are tricky to do yourself without a cutout or something similar).

I just prepared one 9" by 13" chocolate cake and covered it in green tinted butter icing, then I tinted some coconut in green and sprinkled it over the top and sides.

I found some handy silicon half sphere shape at the supermarket and prepared 5 half spheres small cakes (you know just in case something were to go horribly wrong I would have spares). Once these had cooled down I cut off the domed bit to make perfect hemispheres and stuck two together with some jam and toothpicks.

Lastly, I bought ready make icing tubes in white and black, I had a handy cookie cutter in a hexagon shape and I pushed it into the cake to make the patterns, placed the ball cake onto a glass for support until I iced it (I did not ice it all the way round as it would not show anyway).

Lastly, I made a small hollow in the cake to place my ball and finished off in black and white in places where the icing was still missing.
