Homemade Spiderman Cake

Homemade Spiderman Cake

I made this Spiderman cake for my sons 4th birthday. I got my ideas from this website but altered it some as I went along. The example cake I saw on this website was a little large for what I needed.

Spiderman's head was a Styrofoam egg shape on a wooden dowel. The base of the cake is a 11x15 sheet pan. His shoulders are a 8inch round cake cut in 4's and his chest is a 6inch round. The sheet cake had to be shaved off some after baking to make it flat so I saved those pieces to add for his neck.

This cake was very easy but time consuming. Everyone at the party LOVED it so staying up til 4am was totally worth it!

Responding to icing question
by: Traci Miller

I used store bought white icing for the base of the cake, the red for Spiderman is a buttercream mix I bought (in a box) at Michaels. I used the directions on the box and mixed in a entire container of red gel coloring. It was pink at first so I had to keep adding more and more coloring. The coloring gets darker as time went on. This icing hardens so it was good holding up to the 3D effect.

Great Talent
by: Sadie Thomas

I love Traci's cakes! They are great looking and taste good, too. Each one she has made is better than the last. This one is the best of all. Very professional looking! Bakeries...look out!

She should start a small business(on the side) doing theme cakes.

Who knows? It might grow into a full time career and she could quit her job and work at home.
