Homemade Spiderman Cake

This Spiderman cake is the third cake that I've decorated myself. It's the first time I've rented a cake pan. I baked a regular 2 layer cake (from a box!) per instructions in the Spiderman pan.

For the decorating I started with the eyes and their outline. I spread the icing around and then put cornstarch (won't stick to the icing!) on my finger and patted it all around to make that flattened look. I then put a light blue on the outside of the top of the cake which is the background. I then piped all the black web on his suit.

For the rest I just used my small star tip and starred in the rest of the cake in the red, and dark blue. To finish off the look of the cake I used large stars piped along the bottom of the cake. It was really quite easy for a beginner. All icing used was buttercream.

Everyone loved it especially my little birthday boy!
