Homemade Spiderman Spider Birthday Cake
A client asked me to make a Spiderman Spider Birthday Cake for a birthday party. I’ve made Batman, Superman and Ben 10 cakes, but not yet a Spidey... so I took it on as a fun challenge. I couldn’t find any outstanding edible photo toppers, or toy toppers, and wanted to make something special, so I found a nice photo of Spiderman, and enlarged it, then reproduced it by intricately hand cutting pieces of red and blue fondant to create the superhero, then drew the spiderweb design and shaded his suit by hand with edible marker, and piped the outlines in black icing for emphasis.
To fit in all the wording, I wrapped his legs around the sides of one corner of the cake, which also gives the effect of Spiderman crawling up onto the cake.
