Sponge Bob Cake

Sponge Bob Cake

I made this Sponge Bob cake for my friend's nine year old boy. He asked for chocolate cake shaped like Sponge Bob holding a guitar. I used a 9x13 pan for the body, and frosted it with white and yellow home made butter cream. I cheated a little and used canned frosting for the chocolate pants.

After he was frosted, I covered my thumb in plastic wrap and made indents for the spongy holes. I used white chocolate candy melts to cover pretzels for his legs; also used candy melts to make his eyes, mouth, tie and guitar. I simply printed out a picture of Bob and placed parchment paper over it, then melted the candy , tinted with candy colors and traced using a pastry bag.

His belt, chocolate bar pieces, his feet and "pant legs" are snack cakes. His sleeves were a challenge and then I had the idea of marshmallows! Just cut one in half on an angle, they worked great! This cake was quite a bit of work but well worth it!
