Homemade Spongebob Birthday Cake
I originally planned a Hello Kitty Birthday party, but there was a delay in shipping and I had to change the day before my daughter's 3rd birthday party! So I went to her second choice, Spongebob! I browsed this site for inspiration and this Spongebob Birthday Cake is the outcome! I was up till 5am... but well worth it!!
I baked 2 boxes of white cake that I was going to dye yellow (but forgot to). I also had the idea of making it pineapple flavored (cause SB lives in a pineapple), but had absolutely no time and all stores were closed by then! It helps to grease the pan with Crisco and lightly flour it then pour and bake.
Let cool for a good hour and it literally slides right out! I used a toothpick to freehand his features on the baked cake. Some people used templates, but I again had NO time! Then I went over the outlined SB with black frosting and filled in everything with two different sized star tips.
It is easier to make your own frosting because you can make it stiff enough for the stars to come out perfect (time got me again)! So the stars didn't come out as perfect as I hoped! His pants are chocolate frosting, if the frosting starts to get hot and mushy put it in the freezer for a few minutes only and continue!
His tie and tongue are store bought decorating frosting in the bag that dries quickly and smooth! This cake was a huge hit and my daughter thought he was real! In the end I was kind of glad that Hello Kitty was a flop! This was only my third cake, so I was pretty shocked that it turned out soo good!
