Spongebob Squarepants Cake

Spongebob Squarepants Cake

I doubled the recipe for this Spongebob cake and made a large carrot cake, and baked in a 30x30cm square tin. When cake was cooled, I sliced the side edges off on a diagonal to give Spongebob his shape, then sliced ripples along the sides and top of the cake.

Using a knife I marked the cake into three sections, for his shorts, shirt, and body. I used plain cream cheese icing for his shirt, added cocoa to the icing for his shorts, and added yellow colour gel for the icing for his body.

I then used white royal icing to add Spongebob's features. I used a drinking glass to cut out his eyes in the white icing, I also used white for his teeth. I then divided the remainder of the icing and coloured it green, blue, black, and pink. I used used the blue for his eyes; the black for his eyelashes, pupils, mouth, and belt; the pink for his tongue and tie; and the green for his spots.

I then split the last of the cream cheese icing into two bowls, colouring one lot red and the other black. I used the red to pipe on Spongebob's cheeks, and the black to add the remaining detail, including his collar.

Finally I piped a '2' onto his tie, because the cake was for a second birthday party. The cake was a hit with my nephew!
